Starehe Boys’ Center is a charitable institution established in 1959, that provides education and care to destitute boys all over Kenya. Of our 1050 boys, over 70% rely upon us for food, accommodation, health and educational needs.
Down the years, the bulk of our recurrent financing has depended upon individual child sponsorships, particularly from kindernothilfe E.V. in Germany, Save the Children Fund, UK (now phased out), Austrian Rettet das kind, the Canadian Save the Children Fund, Child Care International, Danish Red Barnet, private individual and group sponsors.
Before a boy is sponsored , the school conducts a history of the boy to establish the level of need. This information is sent to prospective sponsors to aid them choose which boy to support.
It costs £550 to sponsor a boy per annum. This includes the school fees, accommodation and upkeep. This amount can be paid by an individual sponsor or several sponsors can partake to share it in what is known as partial sponsorship.
